
The father of a Brazilian volunteer who gave his life for Ukraine travelled over 10,000 kilometres to visit his grave in Lviv. This was reported by the Lviv City Council. Mayor Andriy Sadovyi met with Luís Toledo, presenting him with a posthumous award for his son, Luis Felipe Vieira Toledo Porto, a sergeant of the 31st Separate Mechanized Brigade.
Luis Felipe died on 29 November 2025 near the village of Velykomykhaylivka, Dnipropetrovsk region. Despite being from Brazil, he considered it his mission to help Ukraine. The father of the deceased arrived in Lviv to visit his burial place at the Lychakiv Cemetery and to participate in the ceremony of presenting the “Honourable Badge of Saint George” award.
During the ceremony, they remembered 35 servicemen who have given their lives for Ukraine since 2014. Luís Toledo expressed gratitude for the support and commemoration of his son and also presented the Mayor of Lviv with the flag of the municipality of the Brazilian city of Teresópolis.
A friend of the deceased, codenamed “Kaban”, recalled his kindness and fighting spirit. “We met on the front line and became brothers in spirit,” he spoke of his comrade.
