It has been four years since the day the Velyki Mosty community lost its defender Vasyl Volodymyrovych Demyd, who fell while defending Ukraine from Russian aggression.
Vasyl Demyd was born on 11 January 1996. He studied at Dvirtsi School, where he proved himself to be an active and determined pupil: he did sport, played in the football team and won medals.
After leaving school, he enrolled at the Chervonohrad Mining and Economics College, and later continued his education at Lviv National University, where he obtained his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in a speciality related to mining.
In 2016 he was called up to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. During his compulsory military service, Vasyl proved himself to be a responsible and conscientious serviceman. After returning to civilian life, he worked at the “Vidrodzhennia” mine, combining his job with further studies and plans for the future.
After the start of the full-scale Russian invasion, Vasyl once again took up the defence of the state. From April 2022 he served in the border guard, carrying out combat missions in forward positions.
On 21 June 2022 Vasyl Demyd was killed near the settlement of Solodke while defending Ukraine and repelling the armed aggression of the Russian enemy. He was only 26 years old. He did not have time to start a family of his own, but left behind an example of courage, dedication and love for his native land.
In deep mourning for the fallen warrior are his parents, relatives, friends and all who knew him. For his personal courage and heroism, Vasyl Demyd was posthumously awarded the Order “For Courage” 3rd Class, and was also granted the honorary title “Hero of the Velyki Mosty Territorial Community”.
Eternal glory to the defender who gave his life for Ukraine. The community gratefully remembers his feat and pledges to preserve the memory of him.
