A few days ago, a courageous defender of his country, Serhiy Kharechko from Drohobych, was killed while defending Ukraine from the enemy. Today, the soldier’s body arrived in his hometown.
Serhii Kharechko was born on 9 May 1976. He lived in Drohobych on Hrushevskoho Street. He graduated from the school №16. He studied at a vocational school in Rava-Ruska, where he became a wood carver. For some time, he worked at the Drohobych Woodworking Plant, then went to work in Poland. After the tragic death of his brother and his father’s illness, he returned home and worked here.
On 2 February 2023, Serhii joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He was drafted to the 67th Battalion of the 103rd Brigade, and later transferred to the 65th Battalion of the 103rd Brigade of the Logistics Directorate of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The resident of Drohobych showed an uncompromising character, conquering Ukrainian territories and pushing the enemy out of our land. Serhii died on 3 July 2024 while performing a combat mission to defend Ukraine.
The deceased soldier is survived by his mother and nephews. Two sons from a previous marriage have been living abroad for a long time.
Today, the funeral convoy with the defender’s body arrived in his hometown. The meeting took place at the Crossroads of Heroes, where a joint prayer was held under the supervision of clergymen, with the participation of relatives, friends and comrades-in-arms.
From the crossroads, the soldier’s body was taken to the chapel of the Church of the Holy Martyr Josaphat on Hrushevskoho Street. A parastasis will be held here today at 19:00.
The funeral service took place today, 6 July, at 11:00, in the Church of the Holy Martyr Josaphat. The Hero will be buried in the cemetery on Pylyp Orlyk Street, next to his father and brother.
