In the Drohobych community, a farewell ceremony was held for the fallen defender of Ukraine, Stebnyk resident Oleksandr Derenskyi. On 14 August, a funeral cortege bearing the body of the serviceman arrived in Drohobych, where his family, comrades-in-arms, clergy and local residents honoured his memory with prayer at the Heroes’ Crossroads.
After the mourning reception, the cortege proceeded to Stebnyk. A citywide farewell to Oleksandr Derenskyi, who gave his life in the fight against the Russian occupation forces, took place on Taras Shevchenko Square. The funeral service then continued at the Church of the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos.
The defender was laid to rest at the Stebnyk Cemetery on Father Petro Mekelyta Street, where he found eternal rest.
Derenskyi Oleksandr Anatoliiovych was born on 20 September 1988 in the city of Dnipro, where he received a secondary technical education. For the past decade, he had lived with his family in Stebnyk. From June 2025, he served in military unit V3394 as part of the 119th Separate Territorial Defence Brigade, 1st Battalion, 1st Company, combining military service with work as a specialist in the repair and maintenance of special equipment.
On 22 April 2026, while serving in an evacuation group in the village of Myropillia in Sumy region, Oleksandr Derenskyi sustained severe, life-incompatible wounds. After this, he was considered missing for a long time. Only the conduct of evacuation measures and the necessary DNA examinations made it possible to officially confirm his death and return his body for a dignified burial in the community.
His wife, son, sister and brother remain in mourning for Oleksandr Derenskyi. Eternal memory and honour to the fallen defender of Ukraine.
