In the Drohobych community, a farewell took place for a resident of Stebnyk, Roman Kuchera, who gave his life defending Ukraine and its territorial integrity. The funeral cortege with the soldier’s body arrived in the community on 11 August, where he was met by his relatives, comrades-in-arms, clergy, representatives of the authorities and local residents.
People gathered at the Heroes’ Crossroads to honour the memory of the fallen serviceman with a joint prayer and a minute of silence. After this, the mourning procession moved to Shevchenko Square in Stebnyk, where a citywide farewell to the defender was held.
The funeral service was conducted in the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The burial of Roman Kuchera is planned at the cemetery on Mekelyta Street in Stebnyk.
Roman Kuchera was born on 14 March 1982. He graduated from Stebnyk Secondary School No. 18, and later studied at Vocational School No. 19 in the city of Drohobych. He worked at the municipal enterprise “Drohobychvodokanal”.
At the time of the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Roman was abroad; however, he returned home and took up the defence of the state. In 2023–2024, he served in a border commandant’s office. From 2025, he defended Ukraine as part of the 35th Marine Brigade, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Company, military unit A0216.
While carrying out combat missions to defend Ukraine, Roman Kuchera sustained a severe wound. Despite treatment, on 5 August 2026 the soldier died as a result of the injuries he had received.
In mourning for the fallen defender are his father, mother, brother, two daughters and two grandchildren. Eternal memory to Roman Kuchera.
