On May 23, on the Day of Heroes of Ukraine, the Drohobych community bid farewell to the fallen defender Yuriy Markiv.
Yuriy Markiv was killed on September 1, 2024, near Vodyane in the Donetsk region during a combat mission. He was long considered missing, but now his death has been officially confirmed. After identification, his body was returned to his hometown for farewell.
The defender was born on October 29, 1988, in Drohobych, graduated from School No. 17, and studied at the Lviv Medical University named after Danylo Halytsky. He lived in the village of Lishnya, worked abroad, but during the war, he joined the ranks of Ukrainian defenders.

Family, friends, and comrades gathered to meet the mourning convoy with the body. A citywide farewell took place with the participation of community leadership and military personnel. The funeral service began at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity. Yuriy Markiv will find his rest in the Avenue of Glory.
