Drohobych Community Welcomes Fallen Defender Mykola Kostyrko

The people of Drohobych bid farewell to their fellow citizen, Mykola Kostyrko, who heroically gave his life defending Ukraine. Today, the body of the fallen soldier was brought back to his hometown.

Mykola Kostyrko was born on May 25, 1975, and lived on Konovalets Street in Drohobych. He graduated from local school No. 2 and worked as a first-class controller in the Security Unit at Lvivoblenergo.

On November 29, 2023, Mykola was mobilized into the Armed Forces of Ukraine. After training in Vasylkiv, Kyiv region, he served in the 95th Brigade, carrying out missions on the frontlines.

On February 2, 2024, Mykola was killed during a combat mission. Initially declared missing, his death was later confirmed by comrades. Only now has his body been returned and identified.

Farewell Ceremony

Today, a mourning convoy with Mykola’s body arrived in Drohobych. Relatives, friends, comrades-in-arms, local officials, and concerned residents gathered at the Heroes’ Intersection. Clergy led a joint prayer, after which the procession moved to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church on Volodymyr Velykyi Street for a memorial service.

Mykola Kostyrko will be laid to rest tomorrow, December 31, at the cemetery on Pylypa Orlyka Street.

Family

Mykola is survived by his mother, wife, two sons living abroad, brother, and mother-in-law.

The Drohobych community honored the memory of this Hero who gave his life for Ukraine’s independence.
