
Prosecutors from the Stryi District Prosecutor’s Office have sent an indictment to court regarding two residents of the district, who are accused of illegal acquisition, storage, and transfer of firearms and ammunition without the required legal permits (Part 2 of Article 28 – Part 1 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
According to the investigation, in July of this year, a 44-year-old resident of one of the villages in the Stryi district acquired an arsenal of weapons. This includes a Kalashnikov assault rifle, a Dragunov sniper rifle, various caliber ammunition, and gunpowder. Some of the weapons and ammunition were stored in his home. The rest was kept in the residence of his 55-year-old friend, with prior arrangement to do so.
Neither of the accused had permits to store such weapons and ammunition.
During searches at the men’s residences, law enforcement officials seized nearly 500 rounds of ammo, two carbines, an assault rifle, a sniper rifle, and over 1 kg of gunpowder.
The pre-trial investigation is being conducted by police department No. 2 of the Stryi District Police Administration of the National Police Headquarters in Lviv Region.
Note: According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered innocent of a crime and cannot be subjected to criminal punishment until their guilt is proven in a legal process and established by a court’s conviction.
