Identification of Deceased Bodies in Ukraine to Take 14 Months

Complete identification of the bodies of the deceased, which have been returned to Ukraine, will take 14 months.

This was announced by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Ihor Klymenko during the ‘United News’ telethon. The Minister also spoke about the process of identifying the bodies of fallen heroes after repatriation processes.

Currently, 6060 bodies have been repatriated. The Minister emphasized the complexity of the experts’ work due to the condition in which the bodies of Ukrainian defenders arrive.

‘The Russian federation sends the bodies of several individuals in one package, and sometimes experts find the remains of one person in different packages, or even during different stages of repatriation. The enemy tries to complicate this work, delay the process, or even accuse us of inaction,’ said Ihor Klymenko.

Ukrainian specialists definitely conduct a DNA examination of each body or remains. If it is determined that they do not belong to Ukrainian defenders, they are returned to the Russian federation.

Ihor Klymenko emphasized that the respective services are making every effort to conduct all necessary examinations and hand over the bodies to families for honoring and burial.
