Ihor Dashko from Sambir Killed in Battle for Ukraine

In Lviv, at the Field of Mars, border guards honoured the memory of Hero of Ukraine Ihor Dashko. He remained faithful to his oath and to Ukraine until his last breath. Ihor was born in Sambir in the Lviv region, studied at School No. 1 named after Taras Shevchenko, and later dedicated his life to serving in the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.

During the battles in Mariupol, while holding back the advance of superior enemy forces, Ihor sustained severe injuries. Aware of the situation and the approaching enemy, he made his last communication. To prevent the capture of the radio station and preserve military information, the Hero detonated a grenade. His last words – “Glory to Ukraine!” became a symbol of the indomitable spirit of the Ukrainian warrior.

By decree of the President of Ukraine, Ihor Dashko was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine with the Order of the “Golden Star”. His feat reminds us of the price of freedom and the strength of those who defend Ukraine to the end.
