Within the special section ‘Border K9,’ we continue to introduce you to the heroes of the 7th Border Carpathian Division – those who stand guard over your safety every day. Today’s heroes are Inspector-Cynologist Serhii and his loyal partner Jessie, a dog specialist in detecting narcotics.
Three-year-old Jessie has been serving with Serhii since the very first days, achieving nearly 40 successful detections during this time. They are a team, coordinated down to the smallest move.
Serhii dreamed of serving since childhood. His parents were also border guards. At the age of 18, he signed a contract, and from that moment, he can’t imagine his life without the green beret and devoted Jessie.
By nature, Jessie is cheerful and playful, loves treats, apples, and watermelons. But when it’s time to serve, she is focused and attentive. Upon sniffing out something forbidden – she sits and barks loudly, signaling: ‘It’s here.’
‘You can’t deceive a dog. She feels with her heart. That’s why the main thing in our work is attention, training, and love’, shares Serhii.
Jessie really feels everything. When Serhii is in a bad mood – she runs up and affectionately licks him, as if to say: ‘Everything will be okay.’ She is his only dog, and all the cynologist’s love is only for her.
Serhii is originally from Lviv region. In 2024-2025, as part of the ‘Shkval’ Command, he defended the Serebryansky Forest, where he received several concussions. But his loyalty to the oath remains the most important to him.
‘The scariest thing for me is betraying my country. That’s why I’m here’, he said.
