Combined drone and missile strike on Lviv kills one, dozens of homes damaged

During the night of August 21, Lviv and the surrounding region came under a massive combined air attack involving Shahed-type kamikaze drones and cruise missiles. According to preliminary reports, one person was killed and two others were injured.

This was confirmed by Maksym Kozytskyi, Head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration.

  • The attack began at approximately 03:58, with the first sightings of Shahed drones over Zolochiv district.

  • At 04:18, a hostile UAV was spotted heading toward the town of Vynnyky.

  • Air defense units were actively engaged in the region throughout the early hours.

  • At 06:06, a cruise missile hit was recorded in Lviv city.

  • Kozytskyi described the night as “very difficult,” but noted that air defense forces minimized further destruction.

  • By 07:51, authorities confirmed one fatality and two injuries.

  • Explosions damaged at least several dozen residential buildings—roofs were destroyed and windows shattered by blast waves.

  • The worst-hit area was Oleny Stepanivny Street, which also suffered a missile strike just a month ago.

  • There are also reports of fires breaking out in other parts of the city, which emergency crews are currently investigating.

Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi stated that an emergency commission meeting is being prepared. Rescue workers, police, medical teams, and utility services are actively working on-site.
