On Saturday, 17 October, a city farewell ceremony will be held in Lviv for defender Mykhailo Malynovskyi and defender Yaryna Nishtuk, who were killed while defending Ukraine from the Russian occupiers. The city authorities are calling on Lviv residents and visitors to join the farewell and to refrain at this time from entertainment events and celebrations.
The farewell for Yaryna Nishtuk will begin at 09:30 at the Church of the Entry of the Most Holy Mother of God into the Temple of the UGCC at 5 Chukarina Street. The funeral service for Mykhailo Malynovskyi and Yaryna Nishtuk is scheduled for 11:00 at the Garrison Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul.
After the service, at approximately 11:30, a citywide farewell ceremony will take place on Rynok Square. Both servicemembers will be buried at Lychakiv Cemetery, in the field of honourable burials No. 87 on Pasichna Street.
Mykhailo Malynovskyi (17.04.1980 — 11.07.2026) was born in Odesa. He studied at Odesa Lyceum No. 17 of Odesa City Council, and later qualified as an engine operator at the Odesa Higher Vocational School. He worked as a massage therapist and rehabilitation specialist in the private sector.
His family remember Mykhailo as a sincere, kind and exceptionally compassionate person, who was always ready to support others. He was a loving husband and caring father, and he enjoyed drawing. Because of his patriotic stance, he endured civilian captivity and occupation, yet never renounced his convictions.
After leaving the temporarily occupied territory in 2026, Mykhailo voluntarily joined the ranks of Ukraine’s defenders. He served in the Kherson sector with the 34th Separate Marine Brigade “Borysfen” of the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, defending the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the state. He was awarded the “War Veteran” distinction. Mykhailo Malynovskyi is survived by his wife, son and other relatives.
Yaryna Nishtuk (10.09.2002 — 08.10.2026) was a Lviv native. She studied at the “Oriana” Lyceum of Lviv City Council, and later pursued a degree at Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, specialising in “Biology and Biochemistry”.
According to her loved ones, Yaryna was intelligent, multifaceted, sincere and strong in spirit. From childhood she stood out for her curiosity, perseverance in her studies and wide range of interests. She was sensitive, kind, full of life, and at the same time had a strong character, firm convictions and a clearly expressed patriotic stance.
Yaryna constantly worked on self-improvement, learnt several foreign languages, loved reading, travelling and discovering the world. She was passionate about handicrafts, particularly weaving and embroidery, and she loved the mountains and music. She dreamed of being of service to people and, despite having the prospect of a successful scientific career, she consciously chose the path of military service to Ukraine.
In 2024 she took up arms to defend the Motherland from the Russian invasion. She served in the Donetsk sector with the 432nd Separate Unmanned Systems Regiment of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, where she took part in the defence of the state’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. She was awarded the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine distinction “For Exemplary Service”. Yaryna Nishtuk is survived by her parents, brother and other relatives.
