Lviv Plans to Establish a Military-Memorial Cemetery

The Lviv City Council has supported projects that will allow the preparation for the establishment of a military-memorial cemetery within the territorial community. This decision will enable the inventory of land for the arrangement of a resting place for defenders. According to the executive committee manager of the Lviv City Council, Yevhen Boyko, “the places in the fields of honorary burials within the community are running out”, so it is necessary to properly honor those who gave part of themselves to the war.

Two locations are being considered for the cemetery. The first is outside the village of Lysynychi, near the new Vynnyky cemetery, with an area of 7-8 hectares. The village’s master plan provides for a cemetery there. The Lviv City Council notes that these lands require quality inventory, as some plots were divided or used for agricultural purposes.

The second plot is located near the ring road by the village of Pidbirtsi. It is also designated for a future cemetery according to the master plan of Lviv, but requires additional urban planning documentation.

Yevhen Boyko emphasized that the resolutions provide a legal opportunity to study these plots and make a decision that honors the Heroes. The decision to create new cemeteries has not yet been made, as an analysis of options for a balanced decision is currently underway.
