Lviv allocates a further UAH 3.4 million for annual support to children of fallen Defenders

In Lviv, the executive committee of the Lviv City Council has adopted another decision to provide annual targeted assistance for education and recuperation to the children of fallen Defenders of Ukraine, both men and women, as well as to the children of people with group 1 disability as a result of the war. The city has additionally allocated UAH 3.4 million for these payments.

Assistance in the amount of UAH 50,000 per child will this time be received by 58 children for the current year and a further 10 children for the previous year, who were previously unable to exercise their right to this payment.

“No form of support can replace for children what is most precious – their mum or dad. But it is the community’s duty to stand by them and help children grow up, study and feel that they have not been left alone with their loss. Through this assistance, we want to provide not only financial support, but also a sign of care, attention and gratitude for the greatest sacrifice their parents made for Ukraine,” said the head of the city social protection department, Tetiana Kolesnyk.

In September this year, the same annual targeted assistance was already provided to 46 children for a total of UAH 3 million.

Funding is provided within the framework of the Comprehensive Programme to Support War Veterans, Family Members of Fallen (Deceased) Defenders of Ukraine, both men and women, and Certain Other Categories of Persons. The annual payment for education and recuperation is granted to children under 18 years of age who belong to the following categories:

  • children of fallen Defenders of Ukraine, both men and women;
  • children of people with group 1 disability as a result of the war;
  • children of the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred.

To receive the assistance, one of the parents or a legal representative (guardian) submits an application to any district social protection office, to an Administrative Services Centre, or to a Veterans’ Centre.

If the family of a Defender, male or female, for objective reasons does not manage during the year to complete the paperwork confirming their status as a family of the fallen, the payment can be received the following year – at once for two years.

As of 1 August 2026, in the Lviv community 1,222 children have the status of a member of the family of a fallen Defender of Ukraine, male or female. Of these, 748 are under 18 years of age, and a further 478 are adults.
