Lviv region has joined an initiative to install mobile shelters along the routes of “Shkolyaryky” school buses in the frontline-adjacent areas of Dnipropetrovsk region. To implement the project, it is necessary to raise 73 million hryvnias.
As reported by the head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration, Maksym Kozytskyi, the funds are being pooled from the regional budget and the budgets of territorial communities. Ten million hryvnias have already been allocated from the regional budget, and in total, as of now, 32.9 million hryvnias of the planned amount have been transferred.
Some communities in Lviv region have already supported the initiative, but others, despite having the financial resources, have not directed funds towards the safety of children in a frontline region. In particular, Skhidnytsia community was asked to allocate 1.2 million hryvnias for mobile shelters for children in Dnipropetrovsk region, but stated that it does not intend to do so. At the same time, according to the Lviv Regional Military Administration, the community has more than 38 million hryvnias in its accounts.
The Lviv Regional Military Administration also notes that Skhidnytsia community has not joined initiatives aimed at strengthening Lviv region’s air defence cover. Thus, despite having the financial means, the community has supported neither the project to improve the safety of children in a frontline region nor measures to bolster the region’s defence capability.
The head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration appealed to community leaders and local councillors who have not yet decided to take part in the fundraising, calling on them to reconsider their approach to budget allocation.
“There are only a few days left until 1 September. Of the required 73 million hryvnias, Lviv region has so far transferred 32.9 million. Once again, I appeal to the community leaders and local councillors in Lviv region who have not yet joined: reconsider your decisions. Reassess your priorities. Look at the balances in your accounts. Look at the expenditures that can be postponed. What could be more important than the safety of children and the defence capability of the state? There is still time to join. And we will certainly speak just as publicly about the communities that have revised their position and helped,” said Maksym Kozytskyi
The publication by the Lviv Regional Military Administration also mentions Skhidnytsia community and its head, Ivan Piliak, in the context of the community’s participation in these initiatives.
