Defence Ministry introduces new 14- and 24-month contracts with higher pay

The Ministry of Defence of Ukraine has announced the introduction of new types of contracts for those liable for military service, lasting 14 and 24 months. They provide clearly defined service terms, increased pay and additional financial incentives depending on the conditions and results of task performance.

A separate 14-month infantry assault contract has been introduced, designed for assault troops, infantry and combat medics. These categories of service personnel are offered one of the highest levels of frontline pay.

The financial model of the new contracts consists of basic pay, which depends on the position held, as well as substantial daily allowances for being on the front line, restoring positions and taking part in assault operations. Additional payments are also envisaged for specialists working in the rear, in particular in air defence, electronic warfare and the IT sphere.

Cash bonuses for combat results are also provided for — the destruction of enemy equipment or manpower, as well as for taking occupiers prisoner. In addition, service personnel are guaranteed annual health and recuperation payments.

On completion of the contract term, each soldier is granted a guaranteed six-month deferment from mobilisation. It is noted that for each month of direct participation in combat missions, this rest period may automatically be extended by several more months.
