Mykhailo Oleksiyenko from Drohobych district has died for Ukraine

The Drohobych community bid farewell to Ukraine’s defender Mykhailo Oleksiyenko, who gave his life for the freedom and independence of the nation. The funeral cortege arrived at the community, where family, friends, comrades, clergy and concerned residents gathered at the Heroes’ crossroads.

A shared prayer honoured the memory of the warrior. Subsequently, the cortege proceeded to the square, where a city-wide farewell ceremony for the Hero took place at 11:30 am. Afterwards, the funeral procession made its way to the cemetery on Pylypa Orlyka Street, where the fallen Hero’s body will rest in eternal peace.

With the onset of the full-scale war, Mykhailo moved to Lviv, where he was actively involved in volunteer work, and in April 2022, he joined the ranks of Ukraine’s Defenders within the 125th Territorial Defence Brigade. He was posthumously awarded the title of “Honoured Citizen of Slovyansk,” the “For Courage” Third Class order and the “Defender of the Homeland” medal.

The warrior’s life was tragically cut short during combat duties on 15 April 2023 in Luhansk region, and he was buried in Slovyansk. During the war, the defender’s parents moved to the Drohobych district. The warrior’s mother passed away last year and was buried at the cemetery on Pylypa Orlyka Street, and his father wished to lay his son to rest beside her.
