Sokal region mourns the loss of one of its defenders — 33-year-old Yurii Yuriiovych Kartashov, a resident of Sokal born in 1991, has been confirmed killed in action after previously being declared missing.
Yurii graduated from Sokal School No. 4 and later worked at the local brick factory. On May 6, 2024, he was conscripted into the Armed Forces of Ukraine and served as a grenadier in military unit A-1376.
His life was tragically cut short on July 13, 2024, near the village of Urozhayne in Donetsk region’s Volnovakha district during a combat mission. For weeks, his whereabouts were unknown, but only recently has the news of his death reached his family and community. His body is now being brought home.
The farewell ceremony will take place tomorrow, September 8, 2025, at 3:00 PM near the Church of Saints Peter and Paul in Sokal. A memorial service and burial rites will follow upon the arrival of the funeral cortege.
