In Lviv region, farewells were said to border guard Ihor Okis

In Lviv region, a farewell ceremony was held for Senior Soldier of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine Ihor Okis, who was killed on 4 May 2026 while carrying out a combat mission in Kharkiv region. Family, friends, comrades-in-arms and other service personnel came to accompany the soldier on his final journey.

Ihor Okis was born on 15 June 1980 in the village of Shainohy in Lviv region. He first studied at the Vuzlivskyi hub school and later continued his education at Lviv school No. 63. After leaving school, he qualified as a mechanical engineer at the National University of Food Technologies and for many years worked at well-known enterprises, engaged in peaceful labour.

According to the recollections of his loved ones, Ihor was a kind, sincere and caring person, always ready to help others. In his free time, he loved football and fishing, and enjoyed mushroom picking and spending time in the forest, where he drew strength from the beauty of nature.

After the start of the full-scale war, when the enemy came to Ukraine, Ihor Okis, without hesitation, took up arms to defend the country. In December 2024, he joined the ranks of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine. In the summer of 2025, as part of the Shvkal rapid response border commandant’s office, he was sent to Kharkiv region. For his devoted service and demonstrated bravery, the soldier was awarded the “War Veteran” medal.

On 4 May 2026, while carrying out a combat mission in Kharkiv region, Ihor Okis was killed. The report stresses that until his last breath he remained faithful to his comrades-in-arms, his military oath and the Ukrainian people.

The military funeral rite took place at the Garrison Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul in Lviv. After a joint prayer, the funeral procession set off for Lychakiv Cemetery, where the defender was buried with full military honours. An honour guard, a colour party, a military band and a saluting unit accompanied him on his final journey.

Ihor Okis will forever remain in the memory of his comrades-in-arms as a courageous warrior who gave his life for the freedom, independence and future of Ukraine. Condolences are extended to the family, loved ones and comrades-in-arms of the fallen soldier.
