In Lviv region a farewell ceremony was held for soldier of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine Mykhailo Oryshchyn, who was killed on 3 September 2025 while carrying out a combat mission in Donetsk region. Family members, comrades-in-arms, community representatives and local residents came to accompany the serviceman on his final journey.
Mykhailo Oryshchyn was born on 1 May 1983 and lived in the village of Lavryky in Lviv region. He received his secondary vocational education in 1999 at a vocational school in the town of Belz.
The border guard joined the Defence Forces of Ukraine on 11 October 2023, and in March 2024 he was assigned to a border unit. He served as a border service inspector in the rapid reaction border commandant’s office of the 3rd border detachment, carrying out combat missions in Luhansk region.
On 28 March 2024 near Bilohorivka, Mykhailo Oryshchyn sustained a blast injury and acoustic trauma as a result of a strike by a Russian FPV drone. After evacuation and treatment, he returned to his unit in May and continued to carry out combat missions in the area of the Serebrianske Forestry. In November of the same year, the border guard was wounded for a second time — an explosive device dropped from an enemy drone injured his neck and he was evacuated again. After recuperating, he once again returned to duty.
At the beginning of March 2025, together with his unit, Mykhailo was carrying out missions in Kharkiv region, and from June — in Donetsk region. Later he again operated in the area of the Serebrianske Forestry.
On 3 September 2025, the enemy struck the border guards’ position in Donetsk region with an FPV drone. During the enemy assault, contact with soldier Mykhailo Oryshchyn was lost, and later confirmation of his death was received. He went through a difficult combat path, was wounded multiple times and each time, after treatment, returned to service and to the fulfilment of his military duty.
The funeral cortege with the fallen soldier’s body was met in the village of Dobrosyn, after which the warrior was taken to his family home. The funeral service took place in the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, where relatives, comrades and fellow villagers paid their last respects to Mykhailo Oryshchyn.
