Five more plaques in honour of defenders unveiled in Sambir district

The memorial plaques were installed on the facade of the local lyceum where the Heroes once studied.

 

On 1 October, memorial plaques in honour of the fallen defenders of Ukraine were unveiled in Novyi Kalyniv. The plaques were installed on the facade of the local lyceum where the heroes who gave their lives for the freedom of their homeland once studied.

Senior flight engineer-instructor Ihor Turevych, who heroically died on 6 March 2022 in an air battle in Mykolaiv region. He was only 29 years old.

On 5 April 2022, the community lost another defender – the Chief of Staff of the 3rd Helicopter Squadron, Borys Horoshko (born in 1984). He was killed during a combat mission near Mariupol when his helicopter was shot down by an enemy anti-aircraft missile system. He was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine.

On 23 April 2022, senior pilot Pavlo Popovych was killed while performing a combat mission in the Donetsk region. He was 30 years old.

On 11 December 2022, during the hostilities in Kostiantynivka, flight instructor Vitalii Markevych, who was only 27 years old, was killed.

On 5 May 2023, Junior Sergeant Mykhailo Hanshyn (born in 1994) was killed when his car hit a mine. His life was cut short in the struggle for peace and security of Ukraine.

The right to unveil the plaques was granted to the mother of the deceased Pavlo Popovych, Natalia Gultai, and the lyceum’s director, Anna Strus. These memorial signs have become a symbol of gratitude and eternal memory of the heroes who gave their lives for Ukraine.
