In the village of Kanafosty in the Sambir district, they bade farewell to police officer of the KORD battalion (rifle) Andriy Melnyk, who was killed at the front while carrying out a combat mission in Donetsk region.
According to official information, Andriy Melnyk was killed on 11 August as a result of an enemy drone attack near the settlement of Oleksiyevo-Druzhkivka. He was 32 years old.
Family and close friends, comrades-in-arms and colleagues came to his native village of Kanafosty to accompany the defender on his final journey. To pay tribute to the fallen warrior, the head of the Lviv region police Oleksandr Shlyakhovskyi, his deputies, heads of regional police units and Andriy’s comrades-in-arms led by the acting commander of the KORD battalion (rifle) Vasyl Mats arrived.
Andriy served in the Security Police Department in Lviv region, and from 2024 he joined the ranks of the Lviv region police KORD battalion (rifle). Together with his comrades-in-arms, he carried out combat missions in the most challenging sectors.
“Andriy was someone you could rely on. For his comrades-in-arms he was a dependable friend, for his family – a loving son and brother. Today we say goodbye to our colleague and Defender, who gave his life for Ukraine. This is a pain for his family, for his comrades-in-arms and for the entire Lviv region police force. My sincere condolences to Andriy’s parents and brother. We will remember him and will always stand by his family,” said the head of the Lviv region police, Oleksandr Shlyakhovskyi.
Andriy Melnyk was buried with military honours in his native village. He is survived by his mother, father and brother. Andriy will forever be 32.
