On the shield, our Defender – Yuriy MATSELYUH returns to the Novoyavorivsk community.
The war took the life of our Hero on August 13, 2023 in Zaporizhzhia. Yuri was 45 years old.

Yurii Korneliovich Matselukh was born on June 26, 1978 in the village of Stary Yar. After graduating from school No. 3 in Novoyavorivsk, he entered the Art Vocational Technical School named after J.P. Stanka in the village Ivano-Frankivsk, where he studied to be a carver. After graduation, he joined the army, later served in the airborne troops in Zhytomyr.
He received his higher education at the Ukrainian Academy of Printing. He worked as a carver, Yuri’s works can be found in the Cathedral of St. Yuri and the Church of St. Sophia in Lviv.
In 2022, he voluntarily went to defend our Motherland.
“Yuriy was very kind and loved his work as a carver. He said that he had to go to war to protect his children,” said Natalia’s mother.
Yuriy is survived by his mother Nataliya Mykolayivna, wife Oksana and sons Bohdan and Vladyslav.
Eternal and bright memory of the Hero!
The prayer meeting will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Heroes of the UPA 3.
The funeral service will be held on Friday at 12:00 in the Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul.
The Hero will be buried at the local cemetery.
