The Sokal region is in mourning. The heart of Ukrainian Defender Vasyl Ivanovych Cherevko, born on January 15, 1972, a resident of the village of Potorytsia, has stopped beating.
Vasyl Cherevko was born in the village of Tanske, Uman district, Cherkasy region. After completing his military service, he came to work in Potorytsia. It was there that he met his future wife, Oksana, with whom he built a family and raised three children.
Vasyl Cherevko Defended Ukraine Since 2014
Vasyl Ivanovych joined the ranks of Ukraine’s defenders back in 2014. When the full-scale invasion began, he did not hesitate and once again volunteered to defend his homeland.
During his final period of service, the soldier served in military unit A2943 in Kharkiv region.
On April 12, Vasyl Cherevko returned home for his long-awaited and well-deserved leave. He had many plans and wanted to help his family with household work, but the Hero’s heart could not endure.
Awards and Recognition of the Defender
For his dedication to military duty, Vasyl Cherevko received several honors, including:
- in 2024, he was awarded the “Cross of Honor” distinction from the Minister of Defense of Ukraine;
- he received a letter of gratitude from the 45th Separate Artillery Brigade for conscientious fulfillment of military duty;
- he was also awarded numerous medals for his service and defense of Ukraine.
Sincere condolences are extended to his wife Oksana, daughters Iryna and Sofiia, son Maksym, grandson Davyd, brothers, relatives, and the entire grieving family.
Farewell to Vasyl Cherevko
The body of Hero Vasyl Cherevko will be received on April 24 at 12:00 near the Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. Afterward, the funeral cortege will proceed to the village of Potorytsia, where the memorial service and burial rite will take place.
