
The Sokal region is in mourning. Defender of Ukraine Andrii Vitaliiovych Soiko, born on February 27, 1978, in the village of Bodiachiv, has joined the Heavenly Army.
Andrii spent his childhood and teenage years in his native village. He attended Mativ School and later enrolled at the Chervonohrad Mining Technical College, where he qualified as a construction specialist.
From 1998 to 1999, Andrii Soiko completed military service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He later married and, together with his wife Halyna, raised their son. The family lived in Lviv, where Andrii also worked.
Service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine
On February 27, 2024, Andrii Soiko was mobilized into military unit A0796. Together with his fellow soldiers, he carried out difficult combat missions in the Donetsk sector.
On June 1, 2024, he was wounded in an enemy attack near Chasiv Yar. After treatment and rehabilitation, he returned to his unit and continued serving as a rifleman-sniper.
Andrii was later transferred to military unit A0284, where he served as a gunner in an air assault squad.
On January 7, 2025, the Defender sustained a second injury while carrying out a combat mission in the Kursk region. Despite everything he had endured, he remained in service and continued defending Ukraine.
During his military service, Andrii Soiko proved himself to be a courageous soldier, a reliable comrade, and a devoted patriot. He was awarded a military service medal for personal bravery and heroism.
Andrii Soiko died in the Dnipropetrovsk region
On June 14, 2026, Andrii Soiko was killed by enemy shelling while carrying out a combat mission near the settlement of Havrylivka in the Synelnykove district of the Dnipropetrovsk region.
Until his final breath, the soldier remained faithful to his military oath, the Ukrainian people, and his fellow service members.
His parents Mariia and Vitalii, son Oleh, wife Halyna, sister Olha, brother Serhii and his family, as well as the entire extended family, are mourning the loss.
Funeral arrangements for the fallen Defender
The mourning cortege carrying Andrii Soiko will be met near the Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul at 12:00 on June 20.
It will then proceed to the soldier’s family home in the village of Bodiachiv, where a memorial service will be held immediately afterward.
The funeral ceremony will begin at 12:00 on Sunday, June 21.
