
The Sokal community has received the tragic news of the death of Ukrainian defender Ihor Ivanovych Stashyshyn, born on February 8, 1975, a resident of Sokal.
Ihor Stashyshyn was born into a large family in the village of Leshkiv. After finishing school, he studied at the Belz vocational school, where he trained as a gas welder. He later worked in his native village and helped his parents.
When Russian aggression against Ukraine began in 2014, Ihor was called up for military service. He took part in combat operations and participated in the liberation of Marinka and Kostiantynivka.
After returning home in 2015, Ihor married his wife, Natalia. The couple later welcomed their daughter, Darynka. The family lived in Sokal.
Following the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Ihor Stashyshyn once again joined the defenders of Ukraine. On March 19, 2022, he was called up to the Armed Forces of Ukraine and continued defending the country.
The soldier fought his final battle on February 26, 2024, near the settlement of Ivanivske in Donetsk region.
For more than two and a half years, Ihor Stashyshyn was officially considered missing in action. His death has only now been confirmed after his body was identified through DNA testing.
He is mourned by:
- his wife Natalia;
- his daughter Darynka;
- his mother Yelyzaveta;
- his brothers and sisters;
- his entire extended family.
On Wednesday, October 7, at 1:00 p.m., the community will meet the fallen soldier’s body near the Church of Saints Peter and Paul in Sokal.
A memorial service and funeral rite will take place immediately after his arrival.
