
In Stryi district, the families of three fallen defenders of Ukraine were presented with high state decorations, with which the servicemen had been honoured posthumously. The awards were conferred in accordance with orders of the Minister of Defence of Ukraine and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
According to the orders of the Minister of Defence of Ukraine dated May 2026, for exceptional bravery, heroism and leadership in battle, two servicemen from the Stryi area were posthumously distinguished with the “Knight's Cross” medal.
The “Knight's Cross” medal was awarded to Taras Tymkiv, a native of the village of Pisochna in the Rozvadiv community, who lived in Stryi. He joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in July 2023 and served as a rifleman in a machine-gun platoon of military unit A4017. The soldier was killed on 25 December 2023 in battle near Fedorivka in Donetsk region. He had previously been posthumously honoured with the 3rd Class Order “For Bravery”.
The same medal was awarded to Stryi resident Yaroslav Oblonenko. He joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine in January 2023 and served as a rifleman in the 1st Rifle Battalion. The defender was killed on 17 March 2024 while carrying out a combat mission near Bilohorivka in Luhansk region.
In accordance with the order of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine dated April 2026, for selfless fulfilment of military duty and the defence of Ukraine, the honorary breast badge “Combatant's Cross” and the breast badge “Honour and Remembrance” were posthumously awarded to Mykola Kohut, a resident of the village of Falysh in the Morshyn community. He was a senior mechanic-driver in a reconnaissance company of military unit A5003 and was killed on 8 September 2025 while carrying out a combat mission in Donetsk region.
The awards were presented to the relatives and loved ones of the fallen soldiers by the head of Stryi District State Administration, Bohdan Yanko.
The Stryi District State Administration expressed its condolences to the families of the fallen defenders and stressed the eternal honour and remembrance of their feat.
