Novyi Rozdil community to welcome cortege with the body of fallen soldier Ihor Babyak

The Novyi Rozdil community has received official confirmation of the death of a Defender of Ukraine, resident of the settlement of Rozdil, Ihor Babyak, born in 1979. The serviceman was killed on 13 April 2024 while carrying out a combat mission to detect and destroy enemy forces near the village of Novokalynove in the Pokrovskyi district of Donetsk region, remaining faithful to the military oath and the Ukrainian people.

For more than two years, the defender’s family lived in anticipation of news about his fate. Now, after official confirmation, the body of Ihor Babyak is returning to his home settlement for burial.

On Tuesday, 30 June 2026, at approximately 12:00, the settlement of Rozdil will welcome the cortege with the body of the fallen soldier. The procession will move along Halytska – Shevchenka – Vasyl Symonenko – Sichovykh Striltsiv streets to the house at 12 Ivana Franka Street, where the defender lived.

At around 12:15, a parastas (memorial service) will be held at the home. After this, the funeral service will take place in the Church of the Dormition of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the settlement of Rozdil. The burial of Ihor Babyak is planned at the Rozdil cemetery.

Residents of the Novyi Rozdil community are urged to join the welcoming of the cortege with vigil lamps and national flags, to bid a worthy farewell to the fallen soldier on his final journey. Sincere condolences are extended to his family, loved ones, comrades-in-arms and all who knew Ihor Babyak, and it is emphasised that his heroic deed will be remembered and honoured forever.
