Oleksytsia Gymnasium commemorates the memory of Mykola Khomyn and Nazarii Durkot

At Oleksytsia Gymnasium, the names of two more alumni who gave their lives for Ukraine have been commemorated. In honour of Mykola Khomyn and Nazarii Durkot, memorial plaques have been installed so that the school's pupils remember their sacrifice.

Mykola Khomin (16.12.1987 – 23.03.2025) was born and lived in the village of Pidgirci. After studying at Oleksytsia Gymnasium, he continued his education at VPU No. 34 and later worked abroad for some time. In 2024 he was mobilised into Ukraine's defence forces. The serviceman was killed near the settlement of Shevchenkove in Donetsk region.

Nazarii Durkot (23.07.2003 – 15.03.2025) came from the village of Yarushychi in the Stryi community, where he also lived. He studied at Oleksytsia Gymnasium and later at the Stryi Higher Arts and Vocational College. After his compulsory military service, even before the start of the full-scale invasion, Nazarii signed a contract with the National Guard of Ukraine.

During his service, Nazarii Durkot was listed as missing for more than ten months. News of his death was a heavy blow for his family, comrades-in-arms and the teaching staff of the gymnasium, where the memory of both alumni-defenders is now being preserved.
