
On Wednesday, 13th May, Lviv will bid farewell to Orest Huchko, who sacrificed his life fighting for Ukraine’s freedom from Russian occupiers. The city council has asked the people of Lviv to join the farewell ceremony, refraining from celebrations during this time.
The farewell ceremony will commence at 11:00 at the Garrison Church of Sts. Peter and Paul. Subsequently, around 11:30, a city-wide ceremony will take place at Rynok Square. The defender will be buried in the cemetery in the village of Zhydachiv.
Orest Huchko was born on 12th October 1968 in Zhydachiv, Lviv region. He graduated from the secondary school of Zhydachiv Town Council and then attended Lviv Medical Institute, specialising in “Orthopaedic Dentistry”. After his national service, he worked as a dental technician at the “Road Polyclinic DTRR “Lviv Railway”, now the Lewandivka Medical and Diagnostic Centre.
In 2024, standing to defend the Motherland, he fought in the Donetsk direction as part of the 110th Separate Mechanised Brigade. He is survived by a daughter, sisters, a brother, and a large family.
