Defender from Drohobych Andriy Rovynskyi dies while on duty

The Drohobych community has reported the death of serviceman and Drohobych resident Andriy Rovynskyi, who had been serving since 2023, defending Ukraine. While on duty, his health deteriorated and on 28 September 2026 his heart stopped.

Andriy Rovynskyi was born on 2 August 1991 and lived all his life in Drohobych. He studied at School No. 14 and Vocational School No. 15. In 2023 he was mobilised into the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and immediately found himself in frontline positions.

Initially, the soldier served in the 80th Lviv Separate Air Assault Brigade. Near Bakhmut, he was wounded; after treatment he was transferred to the 82nd Zhytomyr Brigade, where he continued his military service.

He is survived by his mother, father, daughter and sister. Drohobych City Council, the executive committee, Mayor Taras Kuchma and Council Secretary Orest Karakevych have extended their sincere condolences to the family, relatives and friends of Andriy Rovynskyi on his untimely death.

The cortege with the serviceman’s body will arrive on 2 October at 12:00 at the Heroes intersection in Drohobych. From there, the procession will proceed to the Chapel of the Dormition of the Blessed Virgin Mary, where a parastas will be held at 19:00.

The funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, 3 October, at 12:00 in the Church of the Dormition of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Andriy Rovynskyi will be buried in the Alley of Glory.
