The Sokal region is once again bowing its head in grief. Ukrainian Defender Volodymyr Yevhenovych Kondratiev died while performing military service.
The life of Volodymyr Kondratiev
Volodymyr Kondratiev was born on August 7, 1980, in the city of Sokal. He studied at Sokal School No. 2 and later continued his education at the Chervonohrad Mining College.
For many years, he worked at a furniture factory in the village of Zhvyrka.
In 2005, Volodymyr married his wife, Nadiia. The family had three children — Artur, Dariia, and Zakhar.
Military service
Volodymyr Kondratiev voluntarily joined military service on October 29, 2023. He served as a grenade launcher operator in a mechanized battalion of military unit A-7381.
Together with his comrades-in-arms, the Defender carried out combat missions in the Kupiansk direction, where intense fighting was taking place.
During his service, Volodymyr endured severe trials:
- he received two serious wounds;
- suffered three concussions;
- underwent heart surgery;
- spent a long period in rehabilitation;
- after treatment, he was recognized as limitedly fit for military service.
Despite his health condition, Volodymyr Kondratiev did not leave the service. He continued helping soldiers as part of an evacuation team, where he saved the lives of his comrades-in-arms.
For his service and devotion to Ukraine, the Defender was honored three times with awards, including distinctions and a medal from the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Death of the Defender
Volodymyr Kondratiev died on May 16, 2026, in the city of Izium while serving in the military.
The community expresses sincere condolences to the Hero’s family and loved ones: his mother Liubov Ivanivna, his wife Nadiia, his children Artur, Zakhar, and Dariia, and his brother Yevhen.
The time of the Defender’s homecoming and the funeral ceremony will be announced separately.
