Drohobych resident Ihor Petesh was killed while defending Ukraine: a meeting with the Hero will be held on Friday, 27 September

The Drohobych community has received sad news from the frontline – a resident of Drohobych, Ihor Petesh, who stood up to defend Ukraine from the enemy from the beginning of the full-scale invasion, was killed in the war against the Russian invaders.

Ihor Petesh was born on 7 May 1973 in the Stryi region. He moved to Drohobych when he was young, got married here and lived with his family on Lyulki Street.

As soon as the full-scale war broke out, Ihor expressed his desire to defend Ukraine. During his farewell to the young fallen hero, he said that such young men should not be allowed to die in the war. So he decided to join the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Ihor was denied several times at the military enlistment office, but in April 2022 he finally came to the defence of his native land as part of the 3rd Border Guard Detachment named after the Hero of Ukraine, Colonel Yevhen Pikus.

Since then, the Drohobych resident has been on the frontline all the time. He was wounded twice, had many shrapnel wounds, but stubbornly returned to battle.

Ihor Petesh died on 20 March during an artillery attack near Kostyantynivka.

The deceased soldier is survived by his wife, daughter and brother.

For several months, the bodies of the defenders could not be removed from the ground, as a fierce confrontation with the enemy continued on this front line. Only now, after DNA tests, the body of the Hero can be returned to his hometown for burial.

The Drohobych City Council, its Executive Committee, Mayor Taras Kuchma and Council Secretary Orest Karakevych express their sincere condolences to the family, relatives, friends and colleagues on the untimely death of our countryman and Hero, Ihor Petesh.

We mourn with you and support you in your time of grief.

The arrival of the funeral convoy with the body of the fallen soldier is expected on Friday, 27 September. The convoy will arrive at the Heroes’ crossroads at 12:00.

At 12:30, a citywide farewell will be held on Rynok Square, followed by the funeral service at the Holy Trinity Cathedral at 13:00.

The fallen soldier will be buried on the Walk of Fame.

Eternal memory to the Hero!
