Colonel Roman Kachur Appointed Head of Hetman Petro Sahaidachnyi National Ground Forces Academy

Colonel Roman Kachur, a highly experienced combat officer and former commander of the 55th Separate Artillery Brigade “Zaporizka Sich,” has been appointed the new head of the Hetman Petro Sahaidachnyi National Ground Forces Academy. His candidacy received the highest number of votes from servicemen and servicewomen through the Army+ application.

The appointment order was signed by Ukraine’s Defense Minister, Rustem Umerov, following the directive of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

“The new leader’s key tasks include conducting a comprehensive audit of the Academy’s operations, implementing reforms in military education, and enhancing the quality of training for soldiers, officers, and sergeants. These measures are critical for strengthening our armed forces,” Umerov stated on Facebook.

A notable aspect of this appointment is the involvement of military personnel in the decision-making process. Servicemen and servicewomen participated in voting through the Army+ digital tool, ensuring transparency and democracy. The minister expressed gratitude to the defenders of Ukraine for their active participation.

Roman Kachur’s Biography

Colonel Roman Kachur is a Hero of Ukraine and a full holder of the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi. Born in the Sumy region, he pursued his childhood dream of serving in the military by enrolling in the Sumy Military Institute of Missile Forces and Artillery, which he graduated from in 2005.

Representing a new generation of Ukrainian officers, Kachur served as the Chief of Artillery of the 81st Separate Airmobile Brigade from 2014 to 2018, carrying out combat missions. In March 2018, he was appointed commander of the 55th Separate Artillery Brigade “Zaporizka Sich,” a position he held until July 2022.

His professionalism and leadership qualities have earned him widespread respect among military personnel.
