Two border guards from the 7th Carpathian Border Guard unit have been awarded state honors for their bravery in battles with the occupant.
Today, Deputy Head of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, Major General Serhiy Serdyuk, ceremoniously presented state awards to service members of the 7th Carpathian Border Guard unit who showed exceptional courage in battles with the occupant. A total of 18 border guards from various border protection units received awards today in Kyiv.
“Congratulations on your well-deserved awards. We have a lot of work ahead. I wish you all health, courage, and strength in continuing the fight against the Russian invasion for our children, loved ones, the Ukrainian people, and Mother Ukraine”, said Serhiy Serdyuk during the event.
Staff Sergeant Ivan Sinyakevych was awarded the medal “For Military Service to Ukraine.” Since July 2013, he has been serving under contract with the State Border Guard Service. From April to May 2023, Sinyakevych carried out combat missions in the operational control zone “Soledar.”
On April 18, 2023, during a combat mission near Bakhmut, the staff sergeant deliberately drew enemy fire onto himself, directing the main strike to his position. In response, he opened fire with a grenade launcher, destroying enemy infantry and significantly diminishing their firepower. During the battle, he personally eliminated a dozen occupants, after which he provided first aid to a severely wounded comrade while awaiting the arrival of the evacuation team.
During another combat duty on May 20, 2023, Sinyakevych delivered a powerful blow to enemy personnel and halted their advance into our defense. As a result of the confrontation, he himself suffered a gunshot-shrapnel wound. After treatment and recovery, the fighter returned to the 7th Carpathian Border Guard unit and continues to serve.
Sergeant Mykhailo Kopko was awarded the “Defender of the Homeland” medal. He joined the border guards in March 2022 and almost from the start carried out combat missions on the Bakhmut direction.
In April 2023, during enemy artillery shelling, Sergeant Kopko suffered an acoustic barotrauma. After successfully repelling an assault, despite his injury, he evacuated a fallen comrade to the observation post along with fellow soldiers. Having completed a course of treatment and rehabilitation, Mykhailo Kopko returned to the unit in July and continues to serve alongside his colleagues.
The heroic deeds of our border guards are daily proof of courage and loyalty to their oath. We are proud of each and every one of them.
