A year has passed since the death of the warrior-defender Andriy Melnyk from Truskavets. He was killed on 21 August 2025 while carrying out a combat mission near the village of Shakhove in the Pokrovskyi district of Donetsk region.
Melnyk Andriy Romanovych was born on 14 October 1993 in the village of Deshychi, which at that time was part of Staryi Sambir district and now belongs to Sambir district, not far from Dobromyl. He studied at the Stebnyk Lyceum.
In 2019, together with his wife Mariya, he moved to the town of Truskavets, where he lived and worked until the start of the full-scale war. Andriy Melnyk was called up for military service by the Stryi RTC on 1 January 2025.
He served in military unit A5003, holding the position of senior gunner of the 3rd mortar crew of the 1st mortar platoon of the mortar battery of a motorised infantry battalion. His comrades-in-arms knew him by the callsign “MAR” — from the first letters of his surname, first name and patronymic.
After the defender’s death, he was survived by his wife, mother and younger brother. Eternal memory to Andriy Melnyk and to all the warriors who gave their lives for the freedom and independence of Ukraine.
