A Year Without a Defender: Velykомостivska Hromada Honours Yurii Nadilnyi

Exactly one year ago, the Velyki Mosty territorial community lost its Defender — Yurii Nadilnyi, a native of the village of Reklinets. His memory is honoured by his family, fellow soldiers, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Yurii was born on 8 May 1995. After completing his studies at Reklinets School, he qualified in heat and gas supply at the Technical and Economic College of Lviv Polytechnic National University, then continued at the same department in the speciality of Construction and Architecture, graduating with distinction. He worked in his field, developing projects, before teaching himself programming and going on to become a front-end engineer.

From an early age, Yurii led an active life: he played for the village football club FC Zheldets and took part in district competitions. After moving to Lviv, he developed a serious passion for mixed martial arts and Brazilian jiu-jitsu, earning a purple belt. He won and placed in numerous all-Ukrainian and regional tournaments, and in 2018 represented Ukraine at the European Jiu-Jitsu Championship in Lisbon.

On 22 July 2023, Yurii Nadilnyi enlisted in the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He initially served with the 141st Brigade before transferring to the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade, where he served as an operator in the third section of strike unmanned aerial vehicles. The hero fell in battle near the settlement of Novosergiivka in Kharkiv Oblast, remaining faithful to his military oath until his last breath.

Yurii is remembered by his family and friends as a sincere, kind-hearted person with a keen sense of justice and a great love of animals. He is survived by his parents, sister, grandparents, and his beloved partner. He was posthumously awarded the honorary title of “Hero of the Velyki Mosty Territorial Community”. We remember. We honour. We will not forget.
