Serhii Melnyk “The German” from Stryi, a machine gunner in the territorial defence battalion of a military unit, was killed while carrying out a combat mission near the village of Zelene in Zaporizhzhia region. This was reported by Stryi City Council.
Serhii Melnyk was born on 23 August 1974 in Stryi. He studied at Stryi Gymnasium No. 4 and later at the local college. In recent years he had been living in the settlement of Pidhorodna in the Pervomaisk district of Mykolaiv region.
In 2026 he was mobilised into the Defence Forces, where he served as a machine gunner in the territorial defence battalion of a military unit. On 29 August 2026 the soldier was killed while carrying out a combat mission in Zaporizhzhia region.
The fallen warrior is survived by his mother, three children and a young grandson. Stryi City Council expressed its sincere condolences to the defender’s family and friends and thanked him for his devoted service to Ukraine.
