Sheptytska community honours five fallen medics who saved lives in the war

10 July in Ukraine is a day of remembrance for healthcare workers who gave their lives helping others. This is the time when we remember those who saved the wounded at the front and in the rear, and remained faithful to their oath to the last moment. They are not with us, but will forever remain in the memories and hearts of our community.

Today, the Sheptytska community bows its head to the five medical heroes our community lost:

🕯 Vasyl Kekish

    • rank: junior sergeant, senior combat medic of the 81st separate airmobile brigade

    • Before the war, he worked as a dentist in Ternopil

    • died on 13 June 2023 near Bilohorivka, Luhansk region

    • age: 29 years old

🕯 Maria Dykhtyar

Dykhtiar Maria
    • rank: captain of the medical service, head of the medical service of the 63rd battalion of the 103rd brigade of the Logistics Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

    • civilian work: paediatrician at the Chervonohrad Children’s Polyclinic, was on duty at the children’s department of the city hospital, worked in the narcological department of the Chervonohrad Central City Hospital

    • died on 2 September 2024 near the village of Hannivka-Vyrivska, Sumy region

    • age: 43 years old

🕯 S ergiy Kuzmiv

    • rank: senior sergeant, senior combat medic of the 103rd separate brigade of the TRO

    • in peacetime he worked as an emergency medical assistant in Sosnivka

    • died on 7 May 2022 near the village of Bilohorivka, Luhansk region

    • age: 49 years old

🕯 Anton Shevchuk

Anton Shevchuk (“Rastishka”)
    • rank: major of medical service, combat medic, headed the medical service of the 82nd separate air assault brigade, as well as the evacuation unit of the medical company of the 153rd separate mechanised brigade

    • before the war he worked in Chervonohrad Central City Hospital and Lviv Regional Clinical Hospital as an anaesthetist

    • died on 28 October 2024

    • age: 36 years old

Taras Smolynets

    • rank: captain of the medical service, officer of the support force group of the headquarters of the 103rd separate brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

    • civilian work: orthopaedic traumatologist at the Chervonohrad Central City Hospital and Sykhiv City Clinic in Lviv

    • died on 15 April 2023

    • age: 54 years

May their memory live on forever. Their sacrifice and courage are an example to us all.
