On 6 June, during a regular session meeting, the commander of the military unit A-0807 together with the mayor of Drohobych Taras Kuchma presented the Order for Courage of the III degree from the President of Ukraine (posthumously) to the family of the fallen Hero Ivan Savshak. The award was presented to his wife Ivanna and son Marian-Stepan.
The audience applauded and shouted “Glory to the Hero!” and thanked the fallen defender for his heroism, feat and sacrifice in the name of Ukraine.
Ivan Savshak was born in 1978 and lived in Drohobych all his life. He graduated from Vocational School No. 15 with a degree in electrical engineering. He worked at a meat processing plant.
After the full-scale invasion, Ivan joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The soldier was mobilised in early March 2022. He performed combat missions in the Bakhmut direction as part of the A-0807 military unit and was known by his call sign “Burkotun”.
The defender was killed on 15 March 2023 in the Bakhmut direction while performing a combat mission.
Ivan was awarded the distinction “Honorary Citizen of Drohobych District”.
The defender is buried in the cemetery on P. Orlyk Street in Drohobych.
