On December 22, Lviv will pay its final respects to Oleksandr Voitenko, who gave his life defending Ukraine against Russian aggression. The City Council urges residents and visitors to join the farewell ceremony and refrain from celebrations or entertainment on this day.
Farewell Ceremony
The ceremony will begin at 10:15 AM at the Garrison Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. Following this, at approximately 10:45 AM, a city-wide farewell will take place at Rynok Square. Oleksandr Voitenko will be laid to rest at the Lychakiv Cemetery.
Biography of Oleksandr Voitenko
Oleksandr Voitenko was born on December 31, 1970, in Kyiv.
- Education: He attended Secondary School No. 184 in Kyiv and graduated from the Vadym Hetman Kyiv National Economic University with a degree in Economics.
- Military Service: He served in the military from 1990 to 1992. During 2015–2016, he participated in the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) as part of a repair and restoration regiment. Since the start of the full-scale invasion, he served in the 26th Separate Rifle Battalion of the 47th Mechanized Brigade “Mahura.”
- Work and Hobbies: Oleksandr was a private entrepreneur who enjoyed woodworking and creating furniture.
Family
He is survived by his parents, wife, and three sons.
