On 17 August, a faithful son of Ukraine, Artem Valeriyovych Hegeshko, returned to his hometown on a shield to rest in eternal peace.
According to Yuriy Korin, the people of Sokal met the Hero in his native land with a human corridor.
With tears in their eyes, feelings of regret and despair, the community residents came out to the main road to meet the body of the fallen Hero with dignity.
The rite of parastasis was led by Metropolitan Archpriest Yaroslav Kashchuk with the clergy of the city and district.
Today, a parastasis was held in the grief room of the Church of Saints Peter and Paul. Tomorrow, on 18 August, at 15.00, Artem Hegeshko will be buried.
On 2 July, 2024, near the village of Ivanivske, Bakhmut district, Donetsk region, Junior Sergeant Heheshko Artem Valeriyovych, born on 25.12.1991, died during the enemy shelling.
Artem was a native of Volnovakha district, Donetsk region, his house was destroyed by the enemy, now his village is under occupation. On 31 May 2023, Artem married Halyna from Sokal, and together they raised their daughter Nadiya-Evelina. Their family happiness did not last long, as the occupiers ended the young soldier’s life.
The brave soldier defended not only Ukraine, but also each of us, our freedom and independence. Human life is priceless, the soul is immortal, and the memory of the Heroes is eternal!
