Sokal community is in mourning today
Today, the funeral of Yuriy Tsyona will take place in the village of Varyazh.
Yesterday, the city community met the body of the Hero Yuriy Tsyona:
On 28 January 2024, during a mortar attack near the village of Novoyehorivka, Svatove district, Luhansk region, our Warrior-Defender, Sergeant Yuriy Tsyona, born in 1973, a resident of the village of Varyazh, died a heroic death.

Yurii was called up for military service on 29 March 2022, he served as a border guard inspector – assistant grenade launcher of the fourth border commandant’s office of rapid response of the military unit A9938.
The fallen hero is survived by his mother Maria, wife Liudmyla, daughters Tetiana, Halyna, Svitlana, sons-in-law Borys, Stepan, grandchildren Viktoriia, Artem, brothers Ostap, Pavlo, sister Hanna.
Also today at 16.30 in Sokal near the Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul we meet the fallen defender Denys Pylypko.
We ask the community to come and meet the Hero with dignity.
Then the funeral cortege will head to the village of Potorytsia, where a parastasis and farewell to the Hero will take place in the local church.
About Denys Pylypko
On 24 January, as a result of an enemy UAV dropping ammunition near the village of Mala Tokmachka in Zaporizhzhia region, a senior driver of the 2nd anti-tank guided missile unit of the fire support company of the 4th operational battalion of the military unit 3029, soldier Denys Pylypko, born in 1989, a resident of the village of Potorytsia, was killed.
According to the community elder Olga Kalmuk, Denys was only 35.
“Like all of us, he dreamed of living, made plans for the future, raised his children with dignity, but despite this, he was a loyal son of Ukraine. He did not stand aside, but went to defend each of us.
Therefore, I ask the community to put aside all their work and come to meet the Hero with flags, flowers and lamps.
We are planning to meet the funeral cortege at 16.30 from Bohdan’s place along Lvivska Street in Sokal and Zelena Street in Potorytsia and to the church in Potorytsia. The funeral service is scheduled for tomorrow, 02.02.2024, at 13.00 in the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord in the village of Potorytsia.
The Hero is survived by his mother Natalia, his common-law wife Daryna, sons Kyrylko (4 years old), Mykhailo (10 years old), Oleksandr (15 years old), sister Khrystyna and two nephews Maksym and Andriy. We sincerely sympathise with your grief and thank your mother for raising her patriotic son with dignity.
