A memorial plaque to fallen serviceman Ihor Vesniy was unveiled today in the village of Boianets, Velykomostivska Hromada

It was installed on the facade of the Boyanets Gymnasium, where he studied. Ihor would have turned 43 years old. The soldier died on April 16, 2022.

His relatives and friends, classmates, the military, students and teachers of the gymnasium, representatives of the authorities, clergy and residents of the community came to honor the memory of the soldier.

The honorary right to unveil the memorial plaque was given to the Defender’s daughter Marta. According to a long-standing tradition, the fathers blessed the plaque.

bowing their heads in sorrow, paid tribute to the bright memory of the soldier and laid flowers and candles to the memorial sign. Afterward, a memorial service was held at the grave of the defender.

“He was a true patriot, he always believed in our country and its better future, so he never doubted that he would defend it. When the full-scale invasion took place in February, my husband could not find a place for himself and knew that he had to go to defend his country because it was his duty,” recalls Halyna’s wife.
It was the wife who made every effort to get the memorial plaque in her native village. She remembers her beloved husband only in warm, tender words, he was a real master, a jack of all trades, so his family misses him very much.

His fellow villagers remember him with the same warmth, in the truest sense of the word. Ihor Vesniy was a deputy of the Boyanets village council and the head of the gas committee, and with his help the village was supplied with gas.

From the first days of the invasion, the border guard performed combat missions as part of the Stanytsia Luhanska Border Guard Inspectorate of the Luhansk Border Guard Detachment named after the Hero of Ukraine, Colonel Yevhen Pikus.

He served in the military service during the mobilization to the SBGS on February 26, 2022, defending our country.

He died on April 16, 2022 in heavy fighting with the enemy near the village of Nove, Donetsk region. For a long time, the body of the Defender could not be taken away. Only on October 4, 2022, during the excavation of the mass graves, the body of the deceased border guard was identified.

According to the Decree of the President of Ukraine, Senior Soldier Ihor Vesnii was awarded the Order “For Courage of the III degree (posthumously)” for personal courage and heroism in the defense of state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
