The Sokal region has reported the death of serviceman Andriy Vitaliyovych Soiko, a native of the village of Bodyachiv. The defender was killed on 14 June 2026 while carrying out a combat mission near the village of Havrylivka in the Synelnykove district of Dnipropetrovsk region as a result of enemy shelling. This was reported by Sokal City Council.
Andriy Soiko was born on 27 February 1978. He spent his childhood and youth in Bodyachiv and studied at Matyiv School. After leaving school, he entered Chervonohrad Mining College, where he qualified as a construction worker. In 1998–1999 he did his compulsory military service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
He later married and, together with his wife Halyna, raised a son; he lived and worked in Lviv. On 27 February 2024, Andriy Soiko was called up for military service under mobilisation to military unit A-0796. Together with his comrades-in-arms, he carried out complex combat missions in the Donetsk sector.
On 1 June 2024, in the area of the town of Chasiv Yar, the defender was wounded as a result of enemy shelling. After treatment and rehabilitation, he returned to service in his unit, where he held the post of rifleman-sniper. He was later transferred to military unit A-0284 to the post of gunner in an airborne assault squad.
On 7 January 2025, in Kursk region, Andriy Soiko was again wounded while taking part in combat operations to defend Ukraine. The city council notes that during his service he proved himself to be a courageous fighter, a reliable comrade and a true patriot who remained faithful to the military oath until his last breath.
For his personal courage and heroism, the serviceman was awarded the medal “For Military Service”. Sokal City Council extended its deepest condolences to his parents Mariia and Vitalii, his son Oleh, his wife Halyna, his sister Olha, his brother Serhii with their families, and to all the large family of the fallen defender.
