The Sokal community is enduring one of its most difficult losses. Almost simultaneously, news arrived of the deaths of three fellow countrymen and defenders — Nazariy Fedyachko, Ruslan Kosynskyi, and Ruslan Ivat. Due to the expected return of the Heroes’ bodies, the city authorities decided to postpone all festive events for City Day.
Three Names the Community Will Not Forget
The war has taken three defenders from the Sokal region at once. Each of them followed his own path, but they were all united by one thing — loyalty to the military oath and readiness to give the most precious thing for Ukraine.
Nazariy Fedyachko
Soldier Nazariy Yuriyovych Fedyachko, a resident of the village of Ulvivok, died on May 27, 2026, while carrying out a combat mission near the settlement of Tynna in Kamianets-Podilskyi district, Khmelnytskyi region. He gave his life while repelling an enemy air attack.

Nazariy was born on October 16, 2003 — he was only 22. He received his secondary education at the Ulviv school, after which he studied at the Sokal Vocational Lyceum.
Ruslan Kosynskyi
Soldier Ruslan Olehovych Kosynskyi, a resident of the village of Teliazh, died on January 19, 2025, while carrying out a combat mission in the settlement of Mykolaievo-Darino, Sudzha district, Kursk region. Until May 18, 2026, he was considered missing, until DNA testing confirmed his death.

Ruslan was born on December 14, 1983, in Sievierodonetsk, Luhansk region. He received his basic secondary education at the school in the village of Mykolaivka, Popasna district, and later studied at the Sievierodonetsk Technical College. Because of the full-scale invasion, in June 2022 Ruslan and his mother left their home and moved to the Sokal region — first to Zabuzhzhia and then to Teliazh. He was conscripted into the Armed Forces of Ukraine on January 29, 2024, and served in military unit A4689.
Ruslan Ivat
Junior Sergeant Ruslan Ihorovych Ivat, a resident of the village of Komariv, was born on August 5, 1990. He died on the Zaporizhzhia front as a result of an enemy UAV strike while carrying out a combat mission. Ruslan served as commander of the motor transport section of the logistics support company.

He is remembered as an experienced driver and responsible commander who repeatedly carried out missions in frontline areas and always remained a reliable comrade. The Hero is survived by his parents, Mariia and Ihor, his wife Svitlana, and two young children — Anastasiia and Davyd.
City Day Gives Way to Remembrance
This year’s Sokal City Day was meant to be a community celebration. However, as Mayor Serhii Kasian reported, in connection with the tragic news from the front, the community is awaiting the return of the bodies of three Heroes, so the planned cultural and public events are being postponed.

In his address to residents, the mayor emphasized that this year of the war has been a year of pain and losses, but at the same time — a year of resilience and dignity. He thanked the defenders, men and women, thanks to whom Sokal lives and holds firm, and bowed his head before those who gave their lives for the community.
“A deep bow to those who gave their lives for us — their feat will remain forever in the history of the community. Preserving their memory is our sacred duty,” the address reads.
Blessed Memory
The community expresses its sincere condolences to the families, relatives, friends, and comrades-in-arms of all three fallen defenders. The time of the corteges’ arrival and the funeral rites for the Heroes will be announced additionally.
Earlier, “Holos Sokalshchyny” reported on how Lviv region said farewell to defenders and honored the fallen leaders of the Sokal land.
Eternal and blessed memory to the Heroes of Ukraine. 🕯️
