
The Sokal community has reported the death of serviceman Mykhailo Ivanovych Khomyak, a native of the town of Sokal, born on 20.11.1981. This was announced by Sokal Town Council.
Mykhailo Khomyak spent his childhood and youth in Sokal. After graduating from Sokal Secondary School No. 4, he entered Sokal Vocational School, where he qualified as an electric welder.
From 1999 to 2001, Mykhailo completed his compulsory military service in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Later he lived and worked in Lutsk for some time, and after returning to Sokal he held various jobs.
On 25 April 2024, he was called up for military service under mobilisation to military unit A4718. He bravely fulfilled his military duty, defending Ukraine, its freedom and independence in the Donetsk sector.
According to the official notification, on 11 August 2024, Mykhailo Khomyak was killed in action while carrying out a combat mission near the village of Kremyane in the Korenevsky district of Kursk region of the russian federation. Until then he had been considered missing in action, but on 23 July 2026 his body was identified.
The fallen defender is survived by his mother Anastasia, his sister Maria and his nephew Illia. Sokal Town Council noted that the time for the repatriation of the serviceman’s body and the funeral service will be announced separately.
The community extends its sincere condolences to the family and friends of Mykhailo Khomyak and thanks him for his devoted service to Ukraine.
