Soldier Vasyl Chmola, a resident of the village of Novosilky who had been considered missing in action for more than two years, was identified by DNA examination following the repatriation of the bodies of Ukrainian defenders. He was killed on 11 April 2024 while carrying out combat (special) tasks near the settlement of Novomykhailivka in the Maryinka district of Donetsk region.
Vasyl Chmola was called up for military service under mobilisation on 29 November 2022 by the Zolochiv District Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Centre of Lviv region. He served in the 116th Separate Mechanised Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine as a driver in the anti-tank platoon of a rifle battalion, carrying out combat missions to defend Ukraine’s independence and territorial integrity.
He was 37 years old at the time of his death. He is survived by his mother, sister and brother.
Busk City Council expressed its deepest condolences to the family and friends of the fallen soldier, to his friends and comrades-in-arms, stressing that the memory of Vasyl Chmola, who remained faithful to the military oath, to Ukraine and to his people until the very end, will live on in people’s hearts.
The date and time of the soldier’s funeral will be announced in due course.
