Senior Soldier Mykhailo Vasyliv posthumously awarded the “Combatant Cross”

Senior Soldier Mykhailo Vasyliv from the Stryi district has been posthumously awarded the honorary breast badge of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the “Combatant Cross”.

Together with this distinction, the fallen serviceman’s wife was presented with the “Honour and Remembrance” breast badge in the shape of a poppy flower, symbolising respect and gratitude to the families of fallen soldiers.

Mykhailo Vasyliv was born in the village of Kamyanka in the Skole community. He was a participant in the ATO/JFO, and from the beginning of the full-scale invasion he voluntarily joined the ranks of Ukraine’s defenders. He served as a senior soldier, driver of the supply section of the 2nd artillery division of military unit A2943.

During his service, the soldier was repeatedly recognised with state awards. In particular, he was awarded the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine breast badges “For Exemplary Military Service” 1st Class and the “Golden Cross”, and posthumously the Order “For Courage” 3rd Class.

Mykhailo Vasyliv was killed on 11 October 2024 near the settlement of Kruhlenke in the Sudzha district of Kursk region, Russian Federation. At the time of his death, the soldier was 31 years old.
